Minairons: SCW 20mm figures

Posted by Lluis of Minairons on 24 Oct 2013, 17:12

While waiting for the greens of our Republican Infantry to be finished up and brought to casting workshop --something very likely to happen during next week--, allow me to show you a sneak peek on our second 20mm metal figures set, aimed at complementing that first one.

Under the title of Republican HQ & Weapons, we shall release, shortly after the first set, a new one including a couple of foot officers, a standard bearer, two Degtyarev MG teams in different poses, one light mortar team, one Maxim HMG team and a matching flags sheet. Here you are some preliminary drawings of them, by their sculptor Juan G. Bautista of Xan Miniatures:

That is, a total of twelve different human figures and one HMG model. And the flags sheet for our standard bearer, of course! As initially intended, we expect to be able to release both sets before Christmas' time --if everything keeps running as expected!

If willing to learn about the first set, please follow this link: http://minairons-news.blogspot.com/2013/07/going-for-figures-now.html

Also, if willing to read and watch more about this second set, please click on here: http://minairons-news.blogspot.com/2013/10/more-scw-20mm-figures.html

Actually wondering if I could use these for a game with the Very British Civil War game. I know there were a lot of Brits went to Spain to fight in the Internationale Brigade (did I get that right) and the combination of shirt sleeves and non-military trousers might work for VBCW as well.

Humm... theoretically it would make sense --at least for those less organized, badly uniformed types of troops, such as trade unions and parties Militiae.

As for regular troops, such as the Republican Infantry I've shown you in this thread, I see it as not so likely. These infantrymen are dressed in just two alternative uniforms --either in military off-duty single-piece overalls, or in regulation coat and trousers, whose style is different from UK regular army of that time. There are to be 3 different helmets: mostly Adrians, but also a few Spanish and Czech helmets too. And last, weaponry carried by these two sets above is also quite distinctive: Moisin-Nagant rifles, Labora-Fontbernat Catalan SMGs, Degtyarev LMGs or Maxim HMG.

Might this particular range be used for Scottish Republican army? I've read on some of Solway's booklets that they would have got supplied by France. Just for suggesting.

Hi Lluis,

are you planning to expand the range to the Regulares too? The Spanish civil war is not sooo interesting for me, but the war in Morocco in the 1920ies is.

cheers

Luis - it's a start. I have been looking for a way into VBCW in 1/72 for a while, and this range looks to help. The equipment - Moisin-Nagnants etc aren't a major issue as factions would get hold of whatever they can, so I am now looking forwards to these.

Awesome! I very much look forward to these figures. I never got hold of any of BUM:s SCW sets so these will be welcome! I hope it's possible to make the weapons/barrels look realistic and slender (metal figs tend to have quite thick rifles and similar).

Regarding Uwe's question:

The most I can answer you is 'hopefully', right now.
It all depends on the range success degree as while it is developed, as you can imagine.

Just a quick glance at one of our greens:

Moisin-Nagant rifle's thickness has been slightly exaggerated, naturally. But I believe it still quite acceptable to a modeler's eye (just imagine it with its long bayonet fixed, as it will show once finished).

Yes, looks promising. The thickness seems to be within my "tolerance limit" :)

Dear Luis,

so I very much hope for your success!! The sculpting of the figures is very good, so it should work.
