AB figures

Posted by Ben Bob on 25 Oct 2013, 17:17

I'm sure many of you know by now, but AB figures will be produced again by Eureka miniatures. They have an internet company in Europe, USA, and Australia. They're the same ones who already have the AB 18mm guys.
They will be available on the internet soon from what I hear.
Eureka USA will be selling them at the Fall In hobby show in a few weeks :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Do you know, who will sell them in Europe?

I think "Fighting '15s" is their European dealer.

There was quite a long blurb on the AB web site before it closed. The issue seemed to be getting Anthony Barton's approval for the creative rights for the 1/76th scale figures/vehicles etc to be transferred. Michael Hickling (the caster and mould maker etc of the AB team) had some preferences for the 1/76th scale range's transfer in the UK.

I would imagine there are still a lot in the UK. The stocks would not have been exhausted and there are some with various retailers. Normally with white metal you cast a batch and add to the stock. It depends on the metal used but often it can be re used

I see no reason for cheering as this seems messy and not good for the hobby from where I am. These are excellent figures and the more they circulate then this is more likely to be the standard of quality collectors in our hobby will expect. I don't want to disparage those model figures with big heads and poor squat anatomy (plastic and metal), unimaginative poses, gargantuan rifles etc but they were the norm in white metal once.

( BTW I think Fighting 15s refers to 15mm which is, I think, called 18mm in the USA as in the first post)

Tony Barton seems happy with it:

David, I have actually been quite bored with all the "politics" of this news (and there has been plenty of it on all the forums I look at).
I am however, very happy that there is an AB retailer in the US now. Now instead of sending my credit card info in an envelope to Mr. Hinkling, and hoping to get my figures sometime within the next month, I can order directly from Eureka USA.
Also, the link Donald provided says that the Eureka retailer in Europe is indeed "Fighting 15s:" silly name for a store carrying 20mm figs in my opinion ;)

Ochoin

That link is down.
So not very useful.
I bought a lot a few months ago so I can wait.

Fighting 15s has something on their facebook page:

"I'm sure everyone can imagine how pleased I am as Eureka's UK agent about being able to represent Tony Barton's work completely in the UK, and that Eureka has decided to make new moulds and stagger the introduction of the 20mm WWII line.

I've known about the news for some days, and have been keeping quiet until Eureka posted the news itself.

I will only be importing the range to start with, and there will therefore be the inevitable wait between Eureka's announcement of releases and their arrival here."

The first lot in Australia seem to be US soldiers. Little mention of the artillery but all will be revealed. I suppose one bright improvement is they are nicely and adequately illustrated now.

I hope they get the British series back in production soon, I want some of the seated infantry...

A hangover from Fighting 15s' roots as a specialist 15mm painting service. I never imagined at the time I would go on to stock 15mm figures, let alone 3mm, 10mm, 20mm, 28mm and 40mm. I also never imagined at the time I would end up as the agent for Tony Barton's ranges, which I greatly preferred as a painter. :-D

Rebranding might prove a terminal experience, so the name stays.
