Posted by Erich von Manstein on 23 Jan 2016, 16:29

Dear friends,
it's time again to have a look at the agglomeration of hobby news which traditionally come up when the majority of the more important manufacturers are showing their latest projects at the annual Nürnberg Spielwarenmesse.
This years fair will be held from 27.01. to 01.02. and although it is still 4 more days until it finally starts, a great deal of hobby news has already been published during the last few days.

Although quite light in terms of new 1/72 figures, still a good start for 2016 I would say.
Lets hope that there will be more announcements by the time the fair starts!
Surely we'll receive more detailed info about new kits from IBG and Dragon, but maybe also some news from Pegasus, Master Box, Roden, S-Model, Mirage, First To Fight, MK 72, HobbyBoss, Aoshima, Emhar, Heller, ... .
Any 1/72 signs of life from Preiser or Italeri would be greatly appreciated as well.
In the meantime Waterloo1815, Caesar, RedBox, Ultima Ratio, Orion/Haron & Strelets will manage to supply us for another year or two ... .

Best Regards

PS
I took the freedom to underline my "momentary" highlights. Hope this won't cause any confusion or the like.

Thank you, nothing desperately exciting for me, but the Centurions could well tempt me.

T-55A!!! I've been waiting long to get some decent T-55s in 1/72 that is not the 1958-version and with an AA-MG on the turret. The lack of those in 1/72 even made me buy the Tamiya T-55A in 1/35 scale, and I VERY rarely buy kits in 1/35! Nice to see that the T-55 "Enigma" might be released as well, although I have the Black Dog conversion set for the Trumpeter T-55 mod. 58 already, but haven't built yet. We'll see if I ever will if the new kit comes out...
The ZSU-23 is a must also, I've just bought a toy pick-up truck were it can fit nicely!

PREISER - http://figuren.de/showpage.php?Neuheiten_2013&SiteID=92. No new 1:72 figures and very few 1:87.
ITALERI - http://www.italeri.com/imgup/Preview%20Italeri%202016%281%29.pdf. The only new figures are "Union infantry" (#6177) and "Confederate infantry" (#6178). But I think these sets are ex-ESCI.

72172 - BTR-80A, soviet/russian 8-wheeled APC

72531 - 3inch AT gun M5 (M6 carriage, late version)

72557 - Mercedes-Benz W136 Typ 170V Personenwagen sedan, WWII-era 4-door limousine
72422 - VBL, french light armoured vehicle, short version with 12,7mm heavy MG
Those are the earlier announced kits I forgot to list last time.
Btw, here's a link to their 2016 news catalogue:
http://www.acemodel.com.ua/pages/ace_2016.pdf

Airfix:
6304 - USAAF "8th Air Force" Bomber Resupply set (WWII us airfield support set)

- Chevrolet M6 bomb service truck with M5 bomb trailer
- Cushman Model 39 3-wheel Package Car
After the already released & similar RAF set, this looks like another worthwhile compilation of really useful & so far non-existent plastic kits in 1/72!

Italeri:
6050 - Zulu War British Infantry (re-release)
6051 - Zulu Warriors (re-release)
6097 - WWII soviet ZIS-3 AT gun with crew (re-release)

6175 - La Haye Sainte Barn (new MDF laser cut with etched details) already available
6176 - La Haye Sainte Stables (new MDF laser cut with etched details) already available
6177 - ACW Union Infantry (Esci or Accurate/Revell re-release???)
6178 - ACW Confederate Infantry (Esci or Accurate/Revell re-release???)
7522 - Sd.Kfz. 142/1 Sturmgeschütz III Ausf. G (2 new Fast Assembly kits per box)
See Italeris complete 2016 catalogue here:
http://www.italeri.com/imgup/Preview%20 ... 281%29.pdf
Not much 1/72 related news apart from the laser cut buildings & the FA tankdestroyer, but their catalogue lists -as always- many more items in other scales & areas as well, 28mm, 1/35, 1/48, airforce, navy ... .

Good find Jesse! :yeah:

1/72-wise I was only able to detect a few Airfix, IBG, ICM, Pegasus & Revell snapshots so far.

The photo-galleries receive daily updates at the moment though.
http://www.ipmsdeutschland.de/Ausstellu ... r_AE_1.htm

http://www.ipmsdeutschland.de/Ausstellu ... r_VH_1.htm

Today I recognised some other nice 1/72 news in the www.

S-Model:
720057 - Matilda II CS
720088 - Sd.Kfz. 2 Kettenkrad with 88mm Raketenwerfer 43
720133 - M3A3 light tank (in british WWII service)
720176 - Pz.Kpfw. 35H 734(f), captured Hotchkiss 35H version
720181 - Renault R35 light french tank (late version)
All already released and, as always with S-Model, 2 kits per box.

Furthermore they still announce these kits here.
- Matilda II
- Panther Ausf. G late
- M40 Recoilless Gun
- M274 "Mule", 1/2 Ton, 4X4 light utility truck
- Pz.Kpfw. II Ausf. A

UniModels:
271 - Pz.Kpfw. III Ausf. J
374 - Sherman M4(105)
Its most likely that UM will make as much use of the Panzer III chassis as possible. So we can expect some more Pz. III based kits in the future it seems.

And I forgot to mention an Airfix
50178 - "Battle of the Somme Centenary" WWI playset, which seems to contain their ancient 1/76 brit. & ger. infantry, Mk.I male tank & a rather newish Fokker E.II Eindecker plane with a dioramabase.

May I ask why do you think the Italeri ACW boxes will contain Accurate or Esci figures? They had their own boxes of both sides' infantry and cavalry, plus a single artillery box, so I'd say their own figs will be re-released.

If it would be Italeris own sets, why should they furnish them with new catalogue numbers then?
Their numerous re-releases during the last years always kept their original numbers afaik.
The original ACW infantry sets were numbered 6012 & 6014.

Ah, good point, totally avoided my watchful eye.

Well, that could happen...tho it'd not be a really good choice since their own figures are better than both manufacturers' kits for the most part.

Without any doubt, I really cannot see an end to the so called "Golden Age" in 1/72!
All those vehicles need crews & other accompanying figures.
For example, there clearly is a reciprocal relationship between IBGs "Otter" and Strelets south africans or Dragons + IBGs japanese tanks and several related & more recent figure sets (Waterloo1815, RedBox & Strelets).
And thats only the plastic producers I listed here. If we would include all those fine 1/72 resin & metal manufacturers out there, any hobby-news-list would be significantly larger.
Another excellent year and no end in sight, at least in my book.

Best Regards & Happy Modelling!
