Alliance - Fantasy Minis

Posted by kevinrolfe on 21 Feb 2012, 01:30

I have a complete set of the Ceaser minis and the Oldamars Legion of Nightmare, which i had though was it for 1/72 scale fantasy, however it seems a company called Alliance is producing some.
But. there seems very little informaition about the company and its release's, heres what i have.

72001 Orc set 1 (Dark Alliance)
72002 Orc set 2 (Dark Alliance
72003
72004 Elfs set 1 (Light Alliance)
72005
72006
72007 Dwarves Set 1 (Light Alliance)

And they may be an imprint of Orion or Red Box dependent on which site you visit. they have been linked to Dark Dream Studio who produce/ed two set of Sci-fi figures and craft?
There is a single post on a Russian forum that indicates a Humans set but this may just be they way it was written as it was trasnlating Dwarf as Gnome.

So does any one know more. or could direct me to a site that does?

Pure Speclation
I would guess given the set codes that the following is quite likley if sales go well
72001 Orc set 1 (Dark Alliance)
72002 Orc set 2 (Dark Alliance
72003 *Orc Set 3 Mounted?*
72004 Elfs set 1 (Light Alliance)
72005 *Elfs set 2 (Light Alliance)
72006 *Elfs set 3 (Light Alliance) Mounted?*
72007 Dwarves Set 1 (Light Alliance
72008 *Dwarves Set 2?

And does anyone know if Ceaser has any plans to make more Fantasy sets.?

My (incomplete I am sure) understanding was that the Fantasy figures didn't sell well enough and so plans for more sets were discontinued.

You might find this thread interesting.

Haron tells us that the Dwarfs are ready to start shipping and does confirm the Orcs as wolf riders but not for a while yet.

I love the orcs from the Alliance, I was less keen about the Caesar orcs but thought their Undead and Adventurers were the business.

That's our friend Alex (also a member here). You can watch a lot of his sculpts in the project section. The fantasy stuff I think he most makes for his own fun http://bennosfiguresforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4992, but the medieval stuff (very great. Paul shows two of Alex' medieval bathers right now :-D http://bennosfiguresforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10341 ) you can buy from Fredericus Rex. You can probably ask Alex about his fantasy stuff. It is also possible that he answers directly here. We are some that are hoping that he will release the fantasy stuff, it is really great! :-D

Here is a little more of his fantasy stuff http://bennosfiguresforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=9458

I will be picking up my sets of alliance minis along with some injuns and the dark dream space battles stuff on Sunday at a local con.

Was thinking about using the elfs as Steppe Nomads from Space 1889!

I meant Martians rather than Steppe Nomads

Hi
I prefer Caesar Greenskins ( inspirated by WFB and WoW), for me they are more classical for wargames - big, strong and stupid, like stereotypical barbarians, I've got a 4 box of them - 'lil army for wargame in 1/72 based on WFB rules:). But... they be should just a bit bigger.
Orxx from Dark Alliance -hmmm... did they escape from LotR ???
My god, did somebody wanna exploit commercial success of Tolkien's movie Trilogy ???

The four sets can I think be used to make up a number of races,

Caesar Goblins can be used as
Goblins
Kobolds
Petty Dwarfs from the Silmarillion, with a bit of work.
Hobbits at a stretch

Caesar Orcs could be used as
Orcs
Hobgoblins
Bugbears (just)
Neanderthals (maybe)
Woodwose from Lotr (the book)

Alliance Orcs
Orcs
Uruk hai
Small ogres
Armoured Neanderthals ?

The Alliance elfs could be
Elfs (high and drow)
Martians from Space 1889 and John Carter
The giant smurfs from Avatar
Githyanki from D&D

The Caeser elfs
Wood elf
High elfs
Drow
Dunedain rangers from Lotr

The dwarfs Both company's
Just dwarfs
Maybe the odd one could pass as a Gnome ( he'd need a fishing rod lol)

The troll thing in the adventures set could if wings a sword and a wip where added could become a Balrog

The undead set has a number of wraiths which could be used as ringwraiths.
The skeletons as the dead men of dunharrow

I guess the list could go on and on.

I play Hollow Earth Expiditon and have been thinking about which figure in 1/72 would fit. A 1930's pulp game in a hollow earth. I'll give that some more thought

I'll check that out.

Picked up the 4 sets of alliance minis and the the two sets of dark dream space battles.
On a first glance they don't look as good as the ceaser minis. Have to see what they look like smeared with paint.

Whilst the space stuff looks and feels a little rough, there is something about the sets.

I also picked up pegasus eastern friendly Indians, mainly for the monks hopefully they will look good with my LW inquisition set

The Dark dream space battle troops scrub up quite well...the vehicles??? I had a go at them but basically...not that good.

I have some suggestions for you:

-GW Moria goblins: the match pefect for 1/72 orcs (LoTR style, of course)
-Figures from Boardgames: Battlelore -goblin infantry and riders in an "arabic" style, pefect 1/72 match and dwarves in "scottish" style, they match good for Slayers....
"War of the ring" game has very good elves, dwarves, orcs and uruks..

-Metal figures: Blood Dawn has very good "almost" 1/72 dwarves (18 mm). The same for Eureka miniatures, which also has a High elvish and Wood elvish range (just slighly shorter than Ceasar relatives, with a dicker base you get the effect)

Just recieved my light alliance dwarves done by DDS. First impressions is highly impressive, little flash on the figures themselves excellent sculpting. Only quibble is, that the dwarf with axe and shield has a fissure on his back shoulder , and one of them (spearman) seems to be human as opposed to a dwarf but he is done very well so not so much of a complaint.

I know orion/dds had some falsh issues that ruined extremely well sculpted sets but this one seems not to have that same flash issue. Very interested in seeing if dds provides another crac at the dwarves or furnishes us with some humans !
