HAT - Zulu Wars

Posted by Tantallon2 on 19 Jan 2013, 10:05

The new Hat British Zulu war infantry sets look good (on PSR: http://www.plasticsoldierreview.com/Index.aspx). I like the large number of poses in both the infantry and infantry command sets and the innovative use of different arm options to increase the rage of possible poses, The sculpting looks OK rather than great and the relief seems a bit shallow though that might just be the photos as the figures are in red plastic. The red plastic reminds me of early Airfix Guards sets :-D .

I had the same thought. Airfix did that for all their sets, remember the ACW figures, blue and grey. Indians red, WWII Americans green, Japanes Ocre, Germans Bluegrey and so on! ;-)

I like these news sets to ;-)

Zulu fans on the HaT site were clamoring to produce them in red, but I noticed some recent complaints as to how difficult the red is to cover.
That HaT horse has been reappearing in many guises: Theban Army, Late Roman Cavalry... :horse:

Red plastic is annoying.

I've painted some up & they look very good: some ofHaT's best work.

It's a pity they don't recycle their better horses more regularly - the ones in the El Cid Moorish range were a big disappointment. :(

The two sets are very good though the bright red makes it hard to see the detail even in real life. The command set offers alternatives and some very interesting poses. The horse is not up to the same standard as the rider but this is a HaT problem. All in all when they came a week ago I was not disappointed and for anybody interested in British colonial wars they are worth getting.
