Waterloo 1815 - New Set of Napoleonic Highlanders

Posted by Erich von Manstein on 01 Aug 2013, 22:15

Good new for the napoleonic buffs here.
Waterloo 1815 announce a new sculpted set of "Highland Infantry at Waterloo in square" (AP 039) for the coming October.
We can expect 36 foot soldier plus 4 officers on horse.
The numbers tell us that Waterloo 1815 will stick to their usual policy, so we're going to see each pose 4 times repeated... .

Anyway, this comes rather unexpected & without doubt many Nappy collectors will be happy about it.

See the box art here:

It will be a new box, not a reissue of Italeri highlanders with officer from Waterloo 1815!
Next release Cromwell's cavalry and for the 2014 italian alpini and austrian jager, WWI I think! Not bad!! :-D :-D

Ooh goody!!

I hope the pose variation is good, as four sprues of the same figures could make it a bit repetative................ :(

Still they might mix well with the two Italeri sets and that has to be a good thing. Have to practice my tartan again.........

The nice thing about Cromwells cavalry is that really the two sides were not that different in appearance (don't believe all that stuff about hats for the cavaliers and helmets for the roundheads) - I only hope they have decent horses as some of the recent offerings make me wonder what kind of creature the designer uses for reference.

Its good that we will have another set of Napoleonics to add to the collection, but they really need to change the title of the figures as no highland regiment formed square during Waterloo ( a common mistake mostly because of several paintings from the Victorian period showing highlanders in square at Waterloo ) lets also see if they make another common mistake of figures wearing a sporan.

Great to have some Highlanders but why o why must everybody stick to the 4 frames per pack rubbish. For as a wargamer this means lots of wasted figures.....

"79th Cameron Highlanders: As the French cavalry approached for the attack the regiment formed square.
Piper Mackay marched around the square playing the pibroch "Peace or War". The King subsequently presented Mackay with silver mounted pipes."

It's written here: www.britishbattles.com/waterloo/waterloo-june-1815.htm

As far as I know, Colbert's Red Lancers clashed against this square.
There will be no sporrans.

Good news, perhaps, but I`ll wait until The Plastic Soldier Review, before even thinking of buying.
