Ultima Ratio - War in Afghanistan

Posted by Mai Strac on 24 Jun 2014, 18:48

A pleasant surprise comes from the Ukraine. A new entry in the club of the manufacturers.
Good detail of the faces and weapons,
Pity about the man with the MANPADS absolutely disproportionate.
A good box to reproduce both the "bad guys" and the special forces soldiers wearing indigenous clothes.

I didn't find any web site on the box, only the ukraine flag.
I bought the box at an Italian seller.

Those actually look quite good. Opponents for the ESCI Spetsnatz at last.

They look very much like Mujahideen and one of the characters looks like Ahmad Shah Massoud.
BTW good guys/bad guys depends on the time. Isby would have us believe they were the good guys at the time of the Russian intervention. The Northern Alliance fought the Taliban and so on.
The Stinger looks over scale but also crude though the pose looks good. The IFF antenna / aerial would be great as an etched part though looks like a box on the model not an open structure. The mine looks like a Russian or Chinese anti tank mine which is more likely to be an IED with theTaliban but entirely correct for use against the Russians.
The donkey looks la bit like the one in Shrek :-) Lot of donkeys in my part of the UK so I am picky.

All in all very welcome, a nice set and good luck to the company

Opponents for the ESCI Spetsnatz at last. BF

Just to add these were fairly recently re released by Italeri.
Secondly Under Fire do some very nice white metal Afghan figures (Taliban ) with heavy weapons

They will look quite nice, simple but with a certain character that makes them different.

Just received my figs and at first glance they look good.Couldnt help noticing that some of the figures resemble poses from other sets maybe just a coincidence.

Are they compatible with other ranges - for example the Orion Chechens, or the Caesar "Urban" figures?

I got the set yesterday. Great sculptings and details, no flash on the sprue.
So I would say a very high quality.

The only thing is the size, these guys are on the smaller side of 1/72, a full head smaller then for example a Zvezda or Italeri figure.

cheers
