Caesar fantasy rats, lizards and zombies.

Posted by steve_pickstock on 19 Feb 2015, 20:37

Picked up a box of each of these today.

Very, very nice!

40 pieces in a box, 34 figures, 6 weapon and arms sprues, very much 1/72 (the lizards are bigger than man-size), a variety of poses and very true to the originals - I shall say no more than that.

I particularly like the zombies - the figure that appears to be in a great coat is an undead Mandarin. How cool is that?

I have a remark on them. Bought the rat- and lizardmen, and they have in comparison with the other Caesar sets, a lot of flash. Also mould lines are very good visible. :(

Been saying this I like them. A very good addition to the fantasy sets!

Look up "hopping vampire" to get an idea of what the "mandarin" zombie is about.

"A jiangshi, also known as a Chinese "hopping" vampire or zombie, is a type of reanimated corpse in Chinese legends and folklore. "Jiangshi" is read goeng-si in Cantonese, cương thi in Vietnamese, gangshi in Korean and kyonshī in Japanese. It is typically depicted as a stiff corpse dressed in official garments from the Qing Dynasty, and it moves around by hopping, with its arms outstretched. It kills living creatures to absorb their qi, or "life force", usually at night, while in the day, it rests in a coffin or hides in dark places such as caves.[1] Jiangshi legends have inspired a genre of jiangshi films and literature in Hong Kong and East Asia."

Well! That brings a whole lot of interesting to the table top, thank you very much!

I think the fact it is dressed in "official garments from the Qing Dynasty" says more about beaurocracy in the Qing dynasty than it does vampires. But as I bought these figures for games based on Steampunk or In Her Majesty's Name it's going to bring a few smiles to the game.

These fantasy figures, as with all Caesar figures are superb. Was slightly disappointed that the Lizardmen are a bit bigger in scale than equivalent human types - but they are compatible enough and you may like your Lizardmen on the beefy side.
