FIGZ 2021 Cancelled

Posted by Dad's Army on 26 Jan 2021, 14:07

Hi Guys,

Unfortunately I will not be organizing a FIGZ this year.
The current circumstances are too uncertain that it can continue,
and if it is possible it would be with so many restrictions that it would not really be fun.
We are now going to focus on 2022, and who knows, and I hope we might meet sometime this year.

That's sad but understandable news. I hope you guy will have chance to meet (at least informal with some vlaai and beer).

I expected this! But maybe we can meet at CRISIS. And there is also beer and vlaai! :-D

Fingers crossed! ;-)

Really sad, but think the right decision, Remco. The idea with the Crisis is really cool and giving hope, Peter!

I've never been to Figsz but I know how much those who did must look forward to it. But you have to do what circumstances insist upon.

Our local show was, of course, cancelled last year. I'm waiting to see if the '21 show will go ahead in August.

The state I live in (Qld) only had 6 deaths in total & we have been Covid free for quite a while now, excepting some travellers in isolation facilities but I know the government does not like to take chances, so I'm not confident.

Some day FIGZ will return. On that day, I hope to be present.

Dear Remco,

Thanks for informing us so early.
I regret there will be no Figz again but I understand your decision of course.
There is not much fun organising such an event with much restrictions and still taking the risk of having to cancel it all again.

You want to travel from America to Europe just to visit the FIGZ?
Or are you planning a longer vacation?

I've never been part of a FIGZ event, but I hope to be in the future, at least as a visitor. Maybe, for the next time, I will have painted more than one fig or two, so that I am able to display something interesting, who knows ?

Are there sights to see in Europe in addition to FIGZ? I had not been aware of this circumstance.

Well, there is something like that somewhere in Paris, don't know if you will find it very original...

There are much nicer spots in France, particularly in Lyon where I live 8)
Here's a picture of the Rhône, that I took last december.

But, as you can see, there is nobody because the bars are all closed

I am joking, of course. I have been to the UK and Argentina and Iceland and Mexico and Canada, but my job does not involve travel so I have mostly missed out. I would dearly love to see Paris, and Cannes, and Amsterdam, and Rome and the Greek Isles (Crete) and so many other places. When my boys get a bit older, the public health situation improves, and FIGZ returns, I hope to take to the skies.

And back to the topic: FIGZ will return I am sure and maybe it will be greater than ever, because there has been this break.

It was already announced in January that this years Figs meeting is unfortunately cancelled either. :(
See first posting above.
