i dont know how undead they look in person.but the look of the figures,be it their clothes or battered shields reminds me of what armies should look like when on campaigns.if that kind of makes sense.

a lot of the newer sets,be it alliance,red box, and mars,remind me of strelets or orion figures somewhat.that is intended as a compliment.

Got them. They have very Little on them to suggest they are Undead, one or two have semi skeletal arms but apart from that..nothing. The Detail is good though and very Little Flash. One or two weapons are a bit thick but not a bad set.

it's so nice to dream ...
What's sure is that we will never have "Gondor" or "Rohan" in 1/72 : the licences have been sold to other manufacturers !
....but it's always possible to give them other names!
(Rondor and Gohan could be suggested .... )

i could see using generic terms to get by with it.the riders,men of the west,rangers,etc, would be a way of letting us know who they are supposed to represent.without getting sued.
with all the sets out there that could be used to stand in,i not sure they would get produced.

As soon as they appeared I had the Hat El Cid range down for Middle Earth substitutes.

Bearing in mind that Tolkien himself said that the Rohirrim were modelled on the Goths, rather than mounted vikings as a lot of people seem to see them - the El Cid range cavalry will work very well.

The Almoravids will provide very nice Southrons, predominantly black with red-highlights.

I've bought Strelets Ancient Germans to use as Dunlendings, with some MiniArt German cavalry for the few Dunlendish horse..

I'm turning to Zvezda for Gondor and it's Allies, drawing the Citadel Guard from set 8062 Russian Foot Warriors, and the Gondorian Cavalry including Dol Amroth from 8039 Russian Mounted Knights.

ive always thought of rohan as maybe if saxons had cavalry.there is a lot of anglo saxon sounding names and places in tolkiens rohan.but no sets for those available as they didnt exist.altho there are 2 poses in the revell set.
so that could be a set to produce.

So! These guys turned up this morning from Hannants.

I can only give first impressions as we have builders in and the place is a mess and I can't really sit down and give them the time I want to.

The main impression is how nice they are as models, I'm not sure but I think it it's the same sculptor as the Red Box Jacobite, the figures have that same 'legginess'. They're molded in white plastic with little flash on the ones I got.

Lots of uses - for the Oathbreakers I'm just going to load them onto bases without sorting out the various troop types.
